Statement Marking the International Day for the Right to the Truth concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of Victims
March 24, 2021– Today, the Alliance for Shared Values joins the United Nations and the international community to mark the International Day for the Right to the Truth concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of Victims.
On this day, we pause to pay tribute to victims around the world of gross human rights violations and honor all those who have devoted their lives to promoting and protecting human rights for all.
As we reflect on ongoing abuses, we also denounce the Turkish government’s human rights violations against ethnic, civic or religious groups. The victims of these abuses and their families deserve to know the truth about the violations, their circumstances and their perpetrators. Without this commitment to truth, there can be no justice or dignity for victims.
As members of the Hizmet community, we strive to be staunch advocates of human dignity and we take this opportunity to recommit to uncovering and learning from past abuses to prevent their recurrence.
