Fethullah Gulen’s Statement on Hurricanes Milton and Helene
October 16, 2024– In the wake of Hurricane Milton’s devastating impact on Florida and the ongoing recovery from Hurricane Helene in the Southeastern United States, I pray for the victims of these hurricanes, and the swift recovery and rebuilding of these devastated areas. I extend my deepest gratitude to the first responders and volunteers who have worked tirelessly on the front lines to save lives.
The increasing frequency and intensity of these hurricanes serve as a stark reminder of our responsibility to protect and preserve our environment. As Hizmet participants are committed to upholding human dignity, we recognize the critical connection between a changing climate and human welfare. It is our duty to promote sustainable practices within the communities in which we live and serve, and to understand and respect the scientific consensus on climate change.
In response to these increasingly severe and costly natural disasters, I urge everyone to support relief efforts for the victims and the efforts for environmental protection. By coming together, we can aid not only those in immediate need but also work toward creating a more sustainable planet for generations to come.
