Fethullah Gulen’s Statement of Condolences for Former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan
September 14, 2018 – I was deeply saddened this past month to learn of the passing of former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan. On the occasion of his funeral on Saturday, I express my heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. The world has lost a great leader and humanitarian who will remain an inspiration for all.
As former Secretary-General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan contributed to world peace at a time when the world was facing great turmoil. His efforts and dedication brought him the Nobel Peace Prize for prioritizing human rights during his term at the UN.
Annan had pointed out the importance of civil society activities such as those by the Hizmet movement. He stressed that it is crucial to bring people together to facilitate dialogue despite differences in opinion. He reminded us that we need to work together across borders to make this world a safer planet.
Through his actions, he had shown the importance of international cooperation in finding solutions to crises. He will be remembered as a champion of peace, justice, and rule of law. May his commitment to service and his advocacy for world peace act as an inspiration to his successors and world leaders.
I send my condolences to his family and loved ones. May God, the Most Compassionate, give patience and perseverance to them.
