AFSV Statement on Earth Day

April 22, 2022 – Today, the Alliance for Shared Values joins together with the international community to celebrate the 52nd anniversary of Earth Day and to recognize the importance of protecting nature for both current and future generations.

The environment and human rights are interlaced with one another; without clean air, land, and water, one cannot safely exercise their fundamental rights. Just as we believe in respect for human beings, Hizmet movement participants also believe in respect for the environment. Hizmet participants see the Earth as a trust for future generations and, as such, strive to protect it through volunteer work and by promoting environmental awareness.

We base our environmental stewardship on our inner conscience and the sources of our faith tradition, the Holy Qur’an and the practice of Prophet Muhammad, upon whom be peace and blessings of God, which instruct us to preserve natural resources, to not be wasteful, and to consider that earth is meant to reflect the paradise.

As we commemorate this day, Hizmet participants recommit to protecting the environment and working to see God’s paradise here on earth.
