AFSV responds to efforts by Flynn and Erdogan government to deliver Fethullah Gulen to Turkey

March 24, 2017 – We are deeply disturbed by news reports that former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn and senior Turkish officials discussed extrajudicial measures to send Mr. Fethullah Gülen to Turkey without following the formal extradition process. We are heartened that such a plan discussed before the US presidential elections never came to fruition, and it reaffirms our faith in the US justice system where we would expect Mr. Gülen’s name to be cleared should a case against him proceed.

It is clear that President Erdogan knows no bounds – neither expense nor treaty nor law – in his pursuit of an innocent, peaceful man. Unfortunately, his rage also has been directed at his own country, where more than 100,000 people have been arrested, detained, fired, or harassed. We call on President Erdogan to end his persecution of innocent people and to end his witch hunt against Mr. Gülen
