AFSV Message on International Day of Education
January 24, 2023– The Alliance for Shared Values (AFSV) joins the United Nations and the international community in celebrating the International Day of Education, which this year focuses on the importance of education as a human right, as the key to social peace and sustainable development. Today is an opportunity to celebrate the work to expand educational efforts in order to reduce gender and economic inequalities.
Hizmet participants have long put their core values into action by focusing on expanding educational opportunities, especially for those with limited access to quality education. Education strengthens fundamental human rights, empowers women, reduces economic inequality, and helps people engage civically. Hizmet volunteers have prioritized improving access to education by establishing schools, universities, tutoring enters, and student housing across the world and ensuring learning opportunities for girls.
As Hizmet participants committed to gender equality, we are gravely concerned about attempts to limit girls’ right to education. For the millions of children and adolescents around the world who are out of school because of political violence, terrorism, poverty, and gender inequality, today is an opportunity for us to recommit ourselves to protecting and expanding accessible and equitable educational opportunities for all.
